very nice, never seen a Faggin randonneur before
would be nice to keep/respray it red imho. and get rid of the compact bars maybe in favor of more classic shaped ones, I think they are a bit too modern
what fenders are those?
-
• #3
Really nice. What bars are on the bike at the moment?
-
• #4
Oh yeah, real nice, this is gonna be good.

Yeah, been thinking of a metallic red, champagne/silver, or just a nice black with yellow details.
Bars are Bontrager SSR VR-C. They're kind of in between compact and classic drop bars and i just love them. Might polish the visible part later.
The fenders are 50mm Gilles Berthouds. Tad too wide, they're from an earlier project. Had to dimple them slightly to fit in the forks.

Regard to mudguard - measure twice, cut one.
Also look for Soma HY1 handlebar if you didn't like the drop part of that Bontrager handlebar (the Soma is also silver which will fit with your colour scheme).

Of course the bottom bracket cups had to be in plastic and brake when you try to remove them. Now i'll have to spend a couple days trying to get them out piece by piece without damaging the threads. Always the same crap.

Geared up and took on the bottom bracket today. Went fairly well and the threads are ok. Also removed the headset so i'll probably drop it off at the blaster's tomorrow. Not sure whether to keep the chromed stays/dropouts or have them dull it for paint. Will prob be enough silver and chrome on it anyways.
Will be picking up some parts tomorrow. Will not be spending huge amounts on this bike. As much as i would like to fit it with super fancy parts my experience tells me it wouldn't get ridden then.

Decided not to have it blasted but strip it myself. Messy but effective.
I think i will have it painted red again, but this time in a darker metallic tone.

Really want to find that brakes housing.
Wheels MFG. Found a dealer just by googling brass brake ferrule.

That does not really help at all...
-
• #15
Oh. Cable housing.. My bad. Can't help you with that :)

Metallic red it is. Chose one kind of in between those two ^. Dropped it off at the painters a couple days ago. Can't remember the Ral number though. Got some more parts for it in the mail but still looking for the right saddle and tyres. Got some Schwalbe road cruisers with tan walls i might end up using but if there's other easy rolling alternatives in 32-35mm with tan wall, please share. Saddle will probably be a black B17 or a Unicanitor-ish alternative.

Beautiful frame, red with white detailing goes so well.
May sound obvious but try and touch the frames as little as possible. Now the frame has been stripped, it's like a sponge to moisture and the salt on your hands. Your new paintjob will last 10x longer if you keep the frame wrapped in a clean bed-sheet until you are ready to paint.

The new colour looks good! Good stripping work. What did you use to strip the frame?
-

Will:
Used a chemical paint stripper. Brushed it on, left for about 36h, scraped most off with a knife. Brushed on another layer, waited another day and then brushed the rest off with a steel brush.Picked it up from the painters today and i'm really happy with the result.
Ordered most of the remaining parts now. New decals straight from Faggin, Some folding 32mm Paselas. Could probably have gone with 35mm ones but i will be using a new pair of wheels which aren't as wide as the Mavic A319 i first measured with (ones on top photo).
Still no decision on saddle though.. Black B17?

If you find it comfortable, go for it.
I personally would go for the copper rivet one as the rivet doesn't rubs your trouser as the cheaper bolt one (and you can hammered it if it's not smooth).

looks fantastic

B17 is the randonneur sadlle innit?
red bike with black parts = win
this is going to be an awesome bike, good work!

The paintjob looks yummy

Thanks guys.
Ivosmo: You really should. Although this won't be used for any heavy touring.
On that note. I just decided to use an Shimano 105 Derailleur with a 12-25t cassette for normal use and swap for the 12-32 and Deore derailleur when it's time for some (light) loaded touring.Headset fitted.

This is going to look awesome.
Hi,
Just thought i'd document a project somewhere for once.
Won this frame on the bay a couple of weeks ago. It's a Faggin i Oria tubing. Only seen this model once before, which made it kind of interesting. The paint is in pretty bad condition so i will be having it repainted. Stripped the paint of the forks to unveil the chrome.
Will build it up with classic looks and modern performance. Already got some bar end shifters and other parts but haven't really decided on anything yet.
Current tyres are 32mm, but i'm sure 35-37mm ones will fit under the fenders once they've been mounted properly.
Ideas on paint, components and such are welcome. Will be updating as the build goes along.
