In that case definitely stick a kmc on there to tide you through the winter, unlikely a normal chain will have worn enough for it to do you any real harm if you're changing everything in spring anyway.

I know my chain is stretched when the cog is so backwards my tire ends up rubbing the mud guard... probably nowhere near going to come off but annoying.
The single-link KMC that came with the charge hob had a link removed after 500 miles but it's now stretched out again. It was fine single-speed but once I went fixed you could nearly see it stretch.Time for a new one!

FTFY, and if your chain is so worn you've already removed a link and it's worn further then a new chain isn't going to cut it, your cog and ring will be so worn that a new chain won't run smoothly at all.
The time for a new chain is not when the current one is fucked beyond recognition, it's already too late by then.
Oh, shit, I forgot to say I don't have a half link chain!
I should have searched for chain wear instead of chain stretch and I would have found a more appropriate thread to post this in.
