  • I'm heading here for a 'do'.

Is there much to see in Lincoln? Wondering if I should stay a bit longer to check the place out.

Also, any recommendations for places to stay, central?

    Many thanks peeps

  • Hill reps on steep hill.
Cathedral with a habit on and shaved head.
Quasimodo show in the old town.

  • While we're on the subject:

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.

Both wives lost a child while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.

Both Presidents were shot in the head.

    Now it gets really weird.

    Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
    Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

    Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.

Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named "Ford."
Kennedy was shot in a car called "Lincoln" made by "Ford."

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

    And here's the "kicker":

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland.
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

    AND...................:

Lincoln was shot in a theater and the assassin ran to a warehouse...
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and the assassin ran to a theater...

So that's a 'no' to spending more time then.

  • They have a very good triathlon club. Proof if any were needed that there's nothing worthwhile to do in Lincoln.

  • The surrounding countryside is flat and smells of cabbages, the town centre has very bad traffic jams, but the local brewer is really good.

  • Worst film to ever win an Oscar?

(Doesn't really need a question mark)

  • brewery did someone say

    hippy's ears just pricked up

So what? It's a massive coincidence that both names occur in the name of this web page and that it deals with both of them together.

  • It's more of a coincidence they both have bollocks. Imagine that...

  • Not as big a coincidence as that both were human.

  • OMG you are right! What a revolutionary discovery!

This is bigger than Area 51.

  • You ain't heard nothing yet: Both were also alive. Beat that!

  • ^ Prove it.

  • That's more a job for hippy. He's better at Google.

*and *neither of them was tynan.

  • Lots of really good Sustrans traffic free cycle paths in the area. One goes from Brayford Pool in the centre of Lincoln all the way to Fledborough (about 12 miles) along the route of a disused railway. Another goes from near the city centre out to Boston. This is the Water Rail Way and is mostly on tarmac, traffic free paths. Both these routes are pan flat and ideal for fgss rides. Also lots of quiet country lanes and hills close by if you want them.

Actually it's in Wainfleet, but they sell their beer in Lincoln.

  • I grew up in Lincoln and go up often to visit family. The uphill area around the Castle and the Cathedral is quite nice, lots of little shops to have a look around. Up in this area there is a Samuel Smith's pub called Widow Cullens Well, there is another good pub at the bottom of the hill called the Tap and Spile which has a good selection and also the Jolly Brewer which has live music sometimes too.

The White Hart Hotel is good, and right near the Cathedral, they do good cocktails! There are some more budget hotels around the Brayford pool which is a good central location as well.

In terms of food there is the Wig and Mitre at the top of the hill near the Cathedral quarter, really decent food and some local dishes too, they also accept tastecard for 50% off which makes it a bargain. A new place has opened up called Ribs and Bibs if you're feeling carnivorous, I've heard good things about it.

Any more questions let me know.

    Nice one. Ta.

Look Schickles.. "The labels on Triple XB, Victory and Dark Lord state they are approved by the Vegan Society."

  • Thanks Cazakstan. I'll check all that out. Looks like we'll head up Fri night but I have to come back Sunday to see a man about a dog.

  • No worries, Batemans beer is indeed pretty good. Oo, I just remembered if you're in to cheese you should go to the Cheese Society: http://www.thecheesesociety.co.uk/cheeses/english?sort=3d&page=all

They have an awesome menu and do a mean cheese board, they also sell Bateman beer too.

  • Not so much into cheese. Beer and dead animals are good though.
