Would it be a feasible idea to include an option in which people could choose to load/show only the posts that are new (to a registered user) in a thread, rather than the whole page? There would still be a link to the whole page in case someone wanted to display that.
It's only occurred to me because of the .gifs thread. I'd find it much quicker and more convenient to have it load like that. It could be a global option or selectable in thread tools. I also find that thread pages with lots of video embedding or bike route embedding load quite slowly, so it might make those load faster, too.
It might introduce too much complexity, I don't know. Just an idea which I'm sure has occurred to many others before.
