Horrible news. I'm guessing it wasn't a closed road race?
Was watching the Strada Bianchi and Paris-Nice time trials yesterday and wishing the UK had a similar attitude/welcoming of more closed road events. Car is king though, innit :(

Horrible news. I'm guessing it wasn't a closed road race?
I think it was, but the car was travelling in the other direction. Closed-road cycle events often allocate one side of the road to cars.

Ah. I see. Thanks for the clarification. Sounds horrific - and this is a well known, well organised/marshalled event :(

The Heff used to post a lot in another place. Really good guy, very talented rider, had been working hard to get a pro career going. A crying shame.
RIP.

Only ToB gets 'closed' roads which are only a rolling closure, other domestic races get the National Escort Group and marshals who are not police and do not have legal authority to stop or direct traffic.
If you are riding in them you have to observe same road use rules as any other ride including observing solid vs. white lines on the road.

Rest in Peace Junior..
My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
A rider was killed today, at the Severn Bridge Road Race near Bristol.
Hit head on by a car, at speed.
A race I rode many times in the past. It happens so quickly. Life is so fragile.
RIP, and thoughts with his family and friends.
