Myself and Skive are going to have a chat tomorrow and see what's what weather-wise. HHH website doesn't say it's off but looking out my window at the proper snow coming down the reality is that even if it's not called off I'm not sure it's totally safe.
Remember when you were a kid out playing in the winter time without gloves because you were a rascal and independent? And you were running home or towards school and then you're back foot caught on your front foot and you fell straight forward and smacked and ground your palms into the frozen pavement and it burned with a screaming cold pain? I don't want to re-enact that going 20 miles an hour next to traffic because of ice I couldn't see.

we could go cycle round central london.
the roads will be gritted and there will be no-one leaving their house.
thinking about that last sentence i will most likely not be leaving the house.
will make a decision tomorrow.

^ I did the Edgware RC event round some of the same territory last year, which had had a load of snow and ice in the build up. It went ahead, but they changed several bits of the route. It also thawed over the course of the day (which it probably won't on Sunday), which helped in the latter stages.

haha i liked your description there dan very good.
well ive sent a mail to the organisers and they said that if 20+ people turn up on the day then the event will go ahead as they will be able to cover their costs and make a small donation to charity.
he also said that the event has never been cancelled since it first started in 1954! so it seems that the weather will have to do something biblical for these hard bastards to not go out.
i'm undecided. primarily because i'm using these rides for training, so if i can't go fast and attack the hills etc then i'm sure there's something else more worthwhile i could be doing (like a long run etc) that will benefit me more. plus i don't want to be too reckless and really risk injury. i mean i did lejog last year in winter and cycled in snow and vowed never to do that again...

So who's doing this? Website says they're likely to run the 55km only.
Seems hardly worth it ?
-
• #157
Yeh it will most likely be the 55km route so not going to bother this time unfortunately
-
• #158
Did Hippy do this? Any others?
-
• #159
nope, didn't bother. was probably going to be reduced to 55km and with the effort of getting there for that and the terrible weather didn't bother. plenty more rides to do this year

FYI please note that we will now be running the Harp Hilly Hundred on Sunday 3rd March after having to cancel this weekends event due to the snow.

Anyone except me do this? Superbly organised and a great route, tenner to enter with hald going to charity (supposedly), well signposted and a free stack o' sarnies, cake and coffee at the end.
Was my biggest ride in quite a long time and hadn't fuelled up properly beforehad, but was a great route and really enjoyed (sufferered) it

Yeah, I rode it. I'm glad I'm back on the bike but that was probably a bit further than I needed.
-
• #165
So you only did it in 2 hours as opposed to 1 hour 45?!
-
• #166
No, it was over 4 hours and I added 70k getting there and back so >100mi for the day.
I'm just trying to get healthy and get some miles in. The speed will come later.
anyone still up for this? considering the hard day in jan ride was cancelled i'm sure it wouldn't be too wise to go out this weekend outside of london and haven't even looked for any info on whether it's still on. i'm tempted to go if it's still on, but depends very much on what happens tonight/tomo with the snow
