Its silly but I'm intrigued-- even contemplating--- colouring the caps on these Dura Ace HF track hubs. Most of the descriptions indicate that the poly-caps are just cemented on and the black colour is simple paint applied from the rear.
apply heat with a hair dryer to weaken the cement
pry them off with a fine blade or screwdriver
sand off the black paint with fine wet sandpaper
apply new color
glue back on using contact cement
Any experience here? Any pitfalls? How easy, for example, was it to remove the caps without damaging them? What paint was used to color the rear? Model acrylic? Air brushed or ..? How have the hubs held up over time to the "aesthetic tuning"?
