No, better cut twice!
1x on the LH, 1x on the RH side.;-)
And, in deed, a pipe cutter is a lot better.
Don't forget to file the ends in- and outside.
After using a pipe cutter, you always get some kind of bulge at the end of the tube.
Deburr the inside for the plugs. -

pipe cutter used to be available from focus diy for just over £1 :-)

I just bought a nice big hacksaw for the same purpose. Cut my bars fine. Will do the same to yours. For nothing! I'm in Hackney. PM me if you want to pop round.

I used one of these to try and cut my bars today:
http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=557454It snapped in half. Any recommendations for something that will work?
It might have been my fault though, I think I might have tightened it too tight then tried to rotate it.

Take it back and get a replacement. Or get a hacksaw - almost as neat if you're careful and use a guide, and it has other uses too.
-
• #17
Yeah I'm going to take it back tomorrow. I think I tightened in too much on the second revolution. Didn't expect it to shoot apart in my hands though!
-
• #18
Your meant to keep turning it and only tighten it slowly taking your time pal
-
• #19
I thought it was a user error. Although that's not what I'll be telling whoever is at Homebase customer services tomorrow.

Hacksaw, can of polish lager and something steady to rest it on. Can't go far wrong with handlebars.
-
• #21
Oh and a tape measure.

He's right. You tighten it just a tiny bit every few revolutions. More of a slowly but surely tool - it'll cut nice and neat.

use a bit of oil too, 3in1 or wd40 works fine. theres a burring tool(to smooth the inside of the ends, they end up being jagged/sharp) on those cutters but a bit of sandpaper does the job
I have a single speed with these quite weird handlebars, almost shaped like a sideways banana. They are a bit too wide to ride comfortably and I want to chop off a few inches off the ends. Anyone know somewhere/someone that does this and that is not too expensive?
Cheers.
