just wanted to help Johnny get rid not get you a cheaper headset you naughty baboon -
• #29
Ha thanks Hilly Ben - I have watched 4 headsets go on ebay open auction at around 60-70. Just assumed the prices were fair but they seem impossible to find!

Ben...not asking for cheapness, just wondered (as you know your Campag) if you felt that is a fair price for a chorus/athena headset.

may be wrong but i think the cranks are chorus not athena.
1st Gen Chorus cranks have a raised lip around the crank bolt hole by the crank arm.
Johnny: what's the date code on the back of the arm.
-
• #32
Ill go take some photos of markings...but I think chrous has actual indented campy symbols on the arms.

get the headset out, post pics and describe condition
do you know which model it is? If there are no holes in the cup it's Chorus or Athena, if holes then c record.then search lfgss and ebay completed listings for sold headset prices in same condition.

indeed, maybe my eyes are fooling me but the cranks don't look to have the flat profile around the bolt that athenas have.
doesn't really matter either way though i guess!

Need to get the bottom cup out when i get my hands on a tool again - the bottom cup is in the same condition as far as I can tell. They are rust free and have all the seals and bearings. A couple of small scratches in each piece. Ill get a better picture of all of it when the bottom is out.

Campy Headset Athena-bottom cup is in similar condition and will confirm when its out! - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1mja22sq8fkwn8h/jFtkdLHla2
Prices include P+P.
Headset £25 (if its Athena) - dibs to meds atm.
Crankset + BB- Athena (popular opinion sways to athena more than chorus) - £75
Rear Derailleur - Athena - £25
Front Derailleur - Athena - £25
Ergo Shifters 8 spd Athena - £60
Think thats much fairer. Didnt know about the ebay completed listings thing! Thanks Hilly.

I had the exact same shifters a while back and couldn't place them. I'm pretty sure I sold them as Athena in the end (Record markings on front but 'low end' plastic paddles). Got shouted at on Retrobike for thinking they were Record, still recovering.

dont think they are athena ergos either , more like avanti/veloce .....as i understood record, chorus and athena all had steel shifters the cheaper ones had plastic ......
ben ? stop watching university challenge

In the 1994 catalouge (linked in thread somewhere) these exact shifters are there with the same alloy markings and black plastic levers pictured with the Athena set. Download the 94' catalogue from retrobike.com :).

Sadly the headset refuses to be removed.
The BB is also a loss as the tool costs a good £30 and nowhere around me seems to have the tool.On the brightside I will include a Specialized Avatar Gel saddle in the sale as a sweetener.
Crankset - Athena 170mm (popular opinion sways to athena more than chorus) - £75
Rear Derailleur - Athena - £25
Front Derailleur - Athena - £25
Ergo Shifters 8 spd Athena - £60
Seatpost - 27.2mm - £40
£200 including postage for the lot! With the free Specialized Avatar saddle (seem to go for £30-40!).

£50 sounds steep. Hilly Ben what you reckon for the headset?
