  • As I didn't want to use my Cinelli Vigorelli as a commuter I decided to save some money and collect some decent parts for a second fixed gear, for commuting. In that way I could leave my Cinelli clipless and have a no nonsense commuter.

    The plans are:

    • Trackframe with 1" fork
    • Chris King 2nut black 'n white letters headset
    • Miche Pistard wheels
    • Miche Primato cog
    • KMC chain
    • Cinelli 1A black stem, 26.0
    • Rose Compact bars
    • Thomson elite seatpost
    • Rolls Seat
    • Some nice pedals (cages)

So I've got this allready in my possession:

Miche Pistard wheelset, these were on sale at a webshop for 125 euro's. Destickered them and think they look quite okay. Fitted some Durano tyres I found in the shop's warehouse.

    Bars 'n stem

Chainset, cheap Primato's, but got these on a bike I bought once.

Saddle is a somewhat used rolls, but pretty good condition.

So I've got almost everything except a frame.
I'll take a look at a former KNWU trackbike next week, it was pretty cheap. It comes as a full bike and I believe there is a Sugino Supermighty chainset on it, so I might use that then.

As for the pedals, what do you guys think? I was thinking about some MKS track pedals with some double straps (hope to find some reasonably priced Cinelli ones) and I need some clips, should I go alu or plastic?

Let me know what you guys think.

  • Also thinking of buying that crazy Mash Volee tape.

  • As for the frame, I can choose between these two (bad photo's given by the sellers)

    and

They're both my size and fit within the budget. Which one should I go for?

  • ^^ Plastic for sure.
Metal are prone to cracking after time

  • I'd go for the blue one. Not liking the forks on the other.
Although with that bulud i'd really go for a black or white frame.

  • I think I'll go for the blue one, as it comes as a full build and only costs 45 euro's more than the yellow one, which comes as a single frame.
Thinking of selling the parts on the blue one to buy me some omniums.

  • Where did you find these frames? What's the size of the DSC??

  • Here you go:

You can always email the seller, he is the builder so maybe he has something in your size. Yellow one he mailed me was a 58.

I decided to buy the blue one, will pick it up the 9th of february :)
    It's Columbus Thron.

  • Story continuous, found a 1inch silver CK headset in a drawer in the shop, it was missing a bearing cap, so I could have it for free :)!
Now to order a 2nut conversionkit in silver, Aspire would be the cheapest? Or is there an alternative?

    cheers

  • This arrived today

Will (finally) pick up the frame (blue one) tomorrow, really curious to what to expect.
Also this will be build tomorrow as I've got almost all parts.

  • Build is done, will post pictures tomorrow. Frame appeared to be 26.8 seatpost, so Thomson 27.2 is up for grabs, check my for sale thread.

  • Really bad pictures but you get the idea, it was really dark..

As you can see I changed some parts, complete list:

    • KNWU steel track frame, size 58. Decals says Columbus Thron, but I'm not quite sure if this is true.
    • Miche Pistard Wheels (removed decals) with some Schwalbe Durano tyres 23c
    • Sugino Supermighty crank with a 50t ring (came with the bike)
    • Cinelli XA stem with Rose compact bars
    • Rolls seat and 26.8 selcoff post (needs replacement, I'll probably save some cash and go for a silver Thomson elite)
    • All city pedals

Changes that are on their way:

    • Chris King headset
    • Cinelli double straps with all city plastic cages
  • Clearance:

  • Really dig the frame, you can strip the ano off the thomson, been there, done that Edit:My bad, haven't read it was the wrong diameter

  • So I switched to risers and love it now, really nice ride.

  • 125 euros seems like a pretty great price for the miche pistard wheelset!

  • That clearance looks like nonsense to me. #misled

  • are they stiff?

  • Well they're budget wheels and great for commuting. I think I'll relace them with DT competition spokes though, but I think they're great value.

  • This came in today:

Rolls is a bit off now :(

  • Needs a Concor :)

  • Needs a flite

  • I'm thinking of buying an Arione or a 2013 Flite.
