  • I recently sent 3 items to Assos for repair: bib shorts, bib longs and an arm warmer. All items had small-ish holes after a crash.

I enclosed, as requested by Assos on the link further up this thread, a note explaining when and where I bought each item. I didn't enclose any receipts. I also pinned a marker to each damaged area.

Assos replaced a whole panel on the shorts and a section of a panel of the bib longs. Basically as good as new. Very pleased.

The arm warmer was uneconomical to repair so Assos got their UK distributors to contact me and offer me a new set at half price. I took them up on this.

Whilst speaking to the distributor I enquired about what they will repair and what they will call "wear and tear" as every garment has a finite, useful life.

The response was "around 5 years of use". Clearly it is a case by case basis but beyond 5 years, they say you have had your use out of the garment. They will then post your garments back to you. You may have to pay for them to send the garments back. All seems reasonable to me as nothing can be expected to last forever.

So that old pair with the arse worn out may fall into the "beyond useful life" category.
