I realise that users of forums will be core networks within a specific verticle ("sports > cycling" & "recreation > cycling" in this instance), but the feedback we've got has so strongly rejected ideas of social networking and mapping networks across individuals that we'd ruled out nearly all features that went down the social network path (even things as simple as a Facebook Like button were strongly rejected).
We hadn't actually been asking the question, would forum users want to self-identify their professional occupation or roles that relate to their community... i.e. to create mini LinkedIn networks within communities.
It's an interesting idea, and would be good for some communities. But I'll be honest, this won't be a priority for a very long while even though it is interesting from a number of perspectives.
Hmm. Hadn't considered it.
