Building a fixed gear / SS

Posted on
  • I'm going to buy a new road bike soon and was thinking of stripping off some of the parts (brakes etc) and putting them towards a build. I've got a basic and decent understanding of bike tech, but nothing great. Obviously I'd do a lot of reading first, but how hard is it to build a bike?

Bits I'm a bit worried about arethe cranks / bottom bracket area and stem.

I know it's a very open question, just wanna know what I'm up against

  • Aw bless

  • if you're assembling a collection of parts for a fixed build, the only fiddly bit is sorting the chainline

Loads of info on that thread

  • ^ Thanks for the link.

Knew there'd be at least one sarcastic / patronising comment too. We all have to start somewhere...

  • I just got a Cinelli Mash Historgram frame and this time I think I will not build the cycle by myself. I would therefore be interested to hear about good bike shops in London which can take on this very important task. (And sorry for intruding on this thread but I am a new member and cannot start my own thread yet.) Many thanks in advance.

  • Whereabouts in London you based? http://www.lfgss.com/shops.html might help.

  • Thanks. Do you know how Tokyo Fixed in Soho is?

  • Good, very well thought of generally.
