really buckled wheel, like a pringle

Posted on
  • i have just got this beater raleigh off ebay, the rear wheel looks as though it has been booted and caused 1/3 of the wheel to be shifted about 1" to the side.

i know how to true a wheel but not certain on this one. i would normally tighten the spokes to the direction i need and slacken the other side. but as you can image one side is already hella tight and the other side loose.

the rim is steel and not dented.

any idea or help on how to do this please? tried searching but no joy

  • sounds like it is fucked, bin it

  • A good opportunity to practice wheelbuilding - the cost of spokes is negligible unless you go for fancy ones. And a good time to upgrade to an aluminium rim, too.

  • After a crash my front wheel got buckled too, and looked similair like the wheel on the image. I removed the spokes, and tried to bend the rim as straight as possible. Next lace it again, and true your wheel. This worked for me.

    5:00 mins, will also work.

  • back in the day when i was riding trials the standard fix for a buckle was to kick it back the other way, which did cross my mind. thanks to those vids i will be trying that again, cheers!

  • ^^^^ I want a go at that.

  • gave it a go and its back and riding again, didnt take long either. happy days
