I ride a recumbent tricycle and to make it very visible I have been using Megaflare led lights. I originally came across these while working as an exploration geologist. We used them to mark out helicopter landing pads. They are cheap, bomb-proof and when the re-chargeable batteries die you can easily replace them with off-the-shelf cells. They can be secured on with a small shackle from a chandlers or with a couple of long bolts. They come in a multitude of colours, even blue so you can pretend you are a police car.
