Although Rocket had proposed to provide 39 intermediate affordable homes on
the site, the report said it had been determined that more affordable homes
could be delivered if they were provided off-site. Rocket is working with
Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association to build 97 affordable homes at
other sites within the Borough, -

Yep, absolute wankers. The new adjacent buildings are already totally out of scale with the neighbourhood, but this completely dwarfs them. It's height is comparable with the abhorrent Strata tower in Elephant and Castle.
Worse of all it's by some of London's naffest architects, so is bound to be hideous in every last detail.

I'm all about Naff Architects. Any names?
It's the planners they are in bed with.

Nay, politicians.

I can't see that article, Josh--where's the site?

MAKE strike again...
They seem to be the go-to architects for unscrupulous hatchet-job developers. This scheme, the Heygate estate, 5 Broadgate...

The architects are Make, a supposedly 'liberal' practice fronted by Ken Shuttleworth (formally Foster's right-hand man). Ken oversaw the team responsible for the Gherkin. He no doubt has a lot of great experience/contacts, but the output of the office to date has been consistently so ugly that they have become something of a laughing stock in the architectural press, and thankfully so.
Oliver, it's just north of Old Street roundabout, on the fork between City and East Roads. It will mean demolishing the (in my opinion rather nice, except at ground level) red brick NIG building. The new tower will have 39 storeys.

Thanks, Josh, I had heard of that one. We have ideas for reconfiguring the street at ground level in our Vision for Shoreditch:
It may of course be too late for that now. :(

Let the market decide what is beautiful
Which sounds wonderfully egalitarian, but it actually just lets risk-averse, frugal developers off the hook. The market does not mean the public. The public get what they are given.
In other words, this is a Conservative MP's way of putting big business first but disguising it as democracy. It's the same deal as the Big Society. Tory cunts.

Current planning policy is absolutely disgusting and stupid.

Nice and clean, bigger than necessary, but looks like a good place to spend time in.

Peter Eisenman's Brooklyn firestation
Venturi's Dixwell firestation, or should that be 'Duckswell', roflolz...
And Prince Charles' monstrous carbuncle...
