"Oh Shit" moments...

cycling on this really nice stretch of road, flat / very slightly downhill and theres always a tailwind on it and it's recently had some fresh tarmac so its smooov, i'm going about about 26-28mph fixed, all of a sudden i realise i'm freewheeling, i look down and see my chain dangling, i look back up and see a bunch of girls i know walking on the road, obviously i didn't want to embarrass myself by stopping and fixing my chain, i just rolled past them and said hey like nothing happened, turned the corner, and walked the bike for a bit and tightened up dat chain.

if i was riding with tighter clearances i would've ended up skidding all over the place

last time i threw a chain it wrapped around the sprocket and locked the wheel in less than 5 metres destroying the hub and spokes in the process, sounds like you got away easy there...
