it looks like my options are a qr friendly chain tug or (if all else fails) and axle conversion.
That's only if your chain drop is caused by wheel movement. I'd start with some proper sprockets, e.g. On-One Groove Armada

Can you get replacement bearings sets from anywhere cheap or should i just replace the headset?
Replacing the whole headset is usually cheaper

in that case are all cheap headsets about the same? I was going to grab one of these

Hmn, a new option appears...

Not sure they'll look right though.
Wow, those look amazing and must be being sold by a cool, handsome and reasonable chap.
I think you should buy them.
(not biased)

Not exactly, and those Crank Brothers ones are quite different from anything else, but at £19 you can't go wrong. I've got one on my MTB, looks a bit odd with my super thick aluminium head tube but would look tidy on a steel bike.

Don't Crank Bros headsets rust up and seize at the first sight of water? Just get an FSA from On One, they're normally knocking out orbits for ~£20

managed to pick up a 62cm Langster "Las vegas" while holidaying in Germany for 99 euros- carbon forks and hidden headset- was umm-ing about getting it so tossed a coin and ended up with a bargain I reckon esp as EasyJet let me sneak it back for free!!
Not keen on the graphics but worth a punt for a new summer ride I reckon :)

Frame and forks, I presume rather than full bike? Either way, huge bargain.

my brother picked up a columbus allez with ultegra... can't wait to take it for a boot
sounds like a good deal

Not as much as I was expecting, when you look at the cost of their top end road frames.
Pretty tempted to pay them a visit... Where you have fillet brazed to cut lugs I think I'd like fillet brazed to those semi webbed lugs...
How's the ride?
Yeah, definitely pop in. You should also have a look at Kevin Sayles' Flickr page, he's been doing some pretty tasty stuff. Those lugs are called bi-laminate, I'm pretty sure he could do a webbed version, that'd be wicked...and super stiff! It seems that pretty much anything is possible.
Yeah, rides real nice. A bit twitchy from the tight head angle, but that's kinda what I was angling for.

built this monstrosity yesterday
was planning to convert an old aluminium frame raleigh to fixed til i found the crack in the head tube
this is a mishmash of the forks, an old mountain bike i've had in the shed for 7 years and the wheels I was going to use
with bmx handlebarslooks very odd but weighs in less than 10kg moves pretty quick and stops like a mf
was going to leave it in the shed as a parts farm but its actually strangely decent to ride

The reason it moves quickly is that it has an engine

EasyJet let me sneak it back for free!!
that itself is quite an achievement.

Ok, so I dropped off the Alan (finally... sorry whatok) at the red bike shop this morning on route to work, theyre cutting down the steerer so i can tighten the headset and sorting out my indexing...
Then it'll be safe to ride down to ryan for reeming so i can put a modern seatpost in it

I know! put the carbon forks in my suitcase to keep them safe, the shop had a rear axle in so I left that in, wrapped the frame in a box and tied up with string hoping I could pass it off as a sculpture :/ the check in lady thought it was a picture frame and even when my girlfriend said it was a bike frame it was just passed to bulky luggage! The only concession was we were only allowed one item of hand luggage but I put Sally's bag in mine and all was good!
this is how it looks after raiding my shed!! just need a rear wheel as I knicked this off my Genesis. Cant get over the (lack of) weight compared to a Day One!

Been riding on the drop nearly 90% of the time, quick tweak and immediatelymuch more comfortable if a little off till the 3T Tornova is released.

angles >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

• #73169
I agree, but if you're riding on the drop more, it's surprisingly much more comfortable and easier to reach the brakes.
This will be my next upgrade for a lower cockpit;

Ed, whats the difference between the Rotoundo and the Tornova?
-
• #73171
The Tornova have the flat section of the Ergonova, and the drop section of the Rotundo.
Basically a similar shape as the classic Maes handlebar.
-
• #73172
Why not flip the stem to put the drops where you need them?
-
• #73173
It's already flipped.
71.5 degree headtube innit?
Will order a -17 degrees stem to replaced the -6 one I have.
-
• #73174
That angle of the bars sugests you want the drops position higher, rather than lower. But carry on, I know you will.
:)

It's already flipped.
That's like saying "depends where you start from" when asked for directions.
I've just took apart a threadless headset and the bearings are a bit crunchy. Can you get replacement bearings sets from anywhere cheap or should i just replace the headset? it would seem that is the cheapest option. Its an FSA orbit XL II.
