Resurrection of a dead thread here but i just read up on the customs charges and what not (stupidly, not reading up before i ordered) and i just realized i am going to get charged for this new frame of mine.
Its just a frame no fork etc, but does anyone know or have any idea about how much i could be charged?, because i've got no money, literally, if this package arrives i'm not going to be able to pay.
Also does anyone know what'll happen if i cant claim the package for a lengthy period r if its possible to return the package without having to pay custom charges? Thanks.
Well, I just received a new stem, spacers, headset and brake levers from VeloOrange (In the US) and had to pay $28 in charges....

How much did all that cost?
Apparently some of it is worked out by percentages and other imaginary things... -

Parcelforce have the duty tariff on their website I think - but my frame and fork at around 150 GBP (a Leader, when the exchange rate made it worthwhile) was about 25GBP duty and an eight quid @handling@ charge

Hmm, that's not that bad.
Kinda settled my mind a bit.
Ill be able to gather that much in a week or so.
Mine should come to about £27+£8 handling.Im guessing you either got a 720tr or 721tr Hack, right?

yeah, the 721tr - took my time over building it up because of a new baby but it seems nice enough. welds look a little ugly if you get close enough but there's a lifetime guarantee on the frame so I can't complain too much - and they did me a deal on the FSA headset.

Apparently some of it is worked out by percentages and other imaginary things...I think my total bill was about $100 US, and then I got hit with the £28 customs charge. It was two charges, I think... the VAT fee and the 'handling charge' or whatever assessed by ParcelForce.
That said, I frequently have stuff sent to me from the US (including a messenger bag and some shirts and jumpers) and have never before been charged customs fees. So it's luck of the draw, I would think. But I imagine a frame would be a large package, and so it might not slip through the cracks so easily!

Okay, Im guessing it'll be about £35.
Lets just hope there isn't a storage fee. -

Oh and im pretty sure customs got their paws on it,
the parcelforce cunt was tell me how it hadn't arrived yet and was being held up at an international tradin serive...(im pretty sure he meant customs by that)and that charge may be issued. -

If so, that number works on the parcelforce website and it will tell you where it is. I had a status that read "delivery failed at 04.35am" and what that actually meant was that it had cleared customs and was at the central parcelforce depot in Camden awaiting delivery pending me paying all the charges. at that point I had the option of going down and paying in cash or paying online and parcelforce delivering it. Same price either way.

Hi, I wanted to buy a saddle form E-bay and the seller is in Taiwan. Would it be an issue with the customs? Is there any value limit?

If you order or send purchased goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you:
don't have to pay Excise Duty
may have to pay Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135
will have to pay import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £15
Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under. -

The saddle was only 93 grams and looked gorgeous!!! Too tempting for not ordering it.
I asked some friends that buy regularly things on e-bay from outside EU and they told me most of the times they did not pay anything.
I will see how it goes and report my experience. -

If the seller marks it as a gift (they shouldn't) it often doesn't get picked up.
But, if the seller is honest and marks commercial you get stung with courier £8.50 fee for paperwork + VAT.
I got stung once and therefore generally don't bother unless item is cheaper even with fees.
How bout you start a company that offers everything the states has then?
But anywho,
yea i've learnt my lesson about buying from the states.
