If the seller marks it as a gift (they shouldn't) it often doesn't get picked up.
But, if the seller is honest and marks commercial you get stung with courier £8.50 fee for paperwork + VAT.
I got stung once and therefore generally don't bother unless item is cheaper even with fees.
