The architects are Make, a supposedly 'liberal' practice fronted by Ken Shuttleworth (formally Foster's right-hand man). Ken oversaw the team responsible for the Gherkin. He no doubt has a lot of great experience/contacts, but the output of the office to date has been consistently so ugly that they have become something of a laughing stock in the architectural press, and thankfully so.
Oliver, it's just north of Old Street roundabout, on the fork between City and East Roads. It will mean demolishing the (in my opinion rather nice, except at ground level) red brick NIG building. The new tower will have 39 storeys.
