Left the house to go to Richmond with a mate, but got a call 10 minutes later saying she'd fallen back asleep and wouldn't make it. Settled for a very gentle couple of hours 'exploring' and trying to make connections in my head (been trying to do this for 2 years) of where stuff is. Slowly getting the South mapped out.
Ended up on the wrong side of Brockwell Park so cut through - loads of kids so went off piste.
It was a LOT wetter than I imagined. So much for those shiny brand new GP 4000s

Did bog standard laps of Regents Park that ended up harder than desired. Unremarkable.
On the way home through Highbury Fields I saw a couple on a tandem, I estimate in their sixties, holding each others right hand. It was beautiful.

My ride yesterday was almost entirely uneventful apart from the following realisations: car ferries make me happy, rumble strips are the devil's work, I need to stop being so foul mouthed and I'm a lot less fit than I was a few months ago. Will try harder next weekend.

Went out with the slow group club run, trying to work my way up to be able to comfortably manage the medium group. Weather was a mix but still much better than it has been for the past few weeks. http://app.strava.com/activities/41073283

Slow group is average speed of 17? Is that like a cruising speed of 14/5?

Purely academical, as in Oxford.

^^I did 6 reps of Streatley when reccying it before a hillclimb (not the same day!). It's pretty vicious. Ended up doing about 2m35s, but was annoyed that I undergeared* in the end and went 'lactic' too quickly. Should've been about 10 seconds quicker (based on the couple of people who hit the 2m25s mark). Robert Gough broke the course record with a 2m16s that day and threw up for about 20 minutes non-stop afterwards. All I had was a migraine, so clearly plenty left in the tank :D
In other news, discovered I had a solitary spare spoke in stock for my front wheel, and furthermore, the 3 year old alu nipple hadn't seized, so I could fit it without even removing the tyre - hooray!
Excellent stuff BMMF.. have you ever come across a hill known locally as chittychitty bangbang? Featured in the final sequence of the film.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcbxNDwlrOQ somewhere west of Henley..
Not sure I'll find it again, really off the beaten track, also featured in local TT.. Straight for about a mile.. Up up its relentless.

the best weekend outdoors this winter I'd have to say.
Nice reading all.
Just a few more fixed miles either side of a 9 k running event for me.
Total pleasure. -

^^^It was filmed around Turville - there are 3 climbs heading north from either side which look horrible on the map, with the one up to the windmill possibly the least horrible (steepest but shortest). Not sure if I've ridden it, as I tend to follow rather than lead around there. Definitely done a few toughies in the Hambleden vicinity. I was born in High Wycombe, BTW, but left when I was 6, which is a shame as my power-to-weight ratio was probably pretty good at that point ;)

I ride up that way on my normal loop. Past 'The Frog' at Skirmett.

Took the Seta out for a bit of a test ride to Cambridge, with spotter, eamsy and yankieshitbag.
I'd advertised this ride as relaxed, but as it ended up only a few of us we made reasonable speed. Please to see I haven't lost complete fitness from doing absolutely no long rides for months.
Cheers to the Brother Cycles rider who gave us something to chase for the last 15 miles. -

Actually, just checked Windmill Hill on Strava and I'm 2nd on the leaderboard. I remember now it was 4 of us doing a nightride and I was on 69.6" fixed (as ever). I floored it all the way from that climb to Stokenchurch with a slight tailwind - good legs and great fun! No idea it was Dick Van Dykesville.

I know that climb. It's all shielded by trees and quite steep. I remember wheel rubbing on something climbing it on the TT bike a few times.

I expect the wheel was rubbing against some of your fat. Awesomely powerful fat probably.

In fact, what with fat being the slow burning fuel, I now understand your prowess in long distance events. -

I found it scanning the strava for suspect long straight dirt roads.. look for britwell hill. It's a corker, especially on a hot day, not much tree cover
I rode out to Surrey on my own later than usual - needed sleep and wasn't really up for club run after a long couple of weeks of work and life shit. Didnt really plan a route, just found my way out and back through Cobham, not much climbing but lots of drags.
Threshold-y stuff seems good pre first-stab-at-tt next weekend. Going to try to recce the course on a slacker ride on Tuesday.
