I have owned both generations of r series with the new ones having the clamp facing forwards with a vertical cut front and back to distribute pressure. The old r series (2009 onwards) had rear facing clamps with a single vertical cut with a 27.2 post. This is an older r3 with a 31.6 post (2008 or before) and as you state the clamp must be on backwards. I would guess its a 2007 clear coat version with red and white decals as it had minimal paint to remove.
