We might be talking about a beater here, but certain rules still apply, such as treating your bike with dignity.Bar tape is generally black or white, while needless to say there are exceptions; natural leather for instance is perfectly acceptable on vintage bikes.
If you just so happen to be leading Giro d'Italia, by all means fell free to celebrate and wrap your bars in pink.
