I heard that rats didn't even exist until 1950. They were invented by the Russians as spy tools during the Cold War, but they were unable to contain the chewing menace even when they kept them in titanium containers. One day they chewed right through the metal and escaped in swarms, even chewing through the core of the earth to spread to other continents. That's what I heard.
