It's an example of majority wins in physics. They are placed on a platform that moves, and the direction of movement of the majority of metronomes creates a swing motion in the platform that then influences the pendulum balance in the minority metronomes and that causes them to get in time with the majority. As more metronomes join the majority the effect is magnified and the process of killing of the minority is hastened.
