  • I know there are a few twangers on the forum, so thought I'd offer this here first.
It's a Yamaha S-50A steel string acoustic 'folk' guitar. It's always had steel strings, and has always meant to have them. They are genuinely rare and sought after, and this particular one has had a relatively easy life. They were made between 1969-1972 in the Nippon Gakki factory, and this one was purchased in 1973.... And it comes with its original receipt!

It's in really good shape, with only a few very minor blemishes, none worth mentioning in particular.
It has one broken string, but I have left the rest alone as I believe they are the originals....the new owner can either replace them all, or just the one.

Others in not as good condition have sold for £125-£150 on eBay recently, with comparable ones going for up to £250-£300.

I'm asking £100 collected from Lfgss chaps or chapessess, from bishops Stortford, near Stansted airport. Dibs if you want, but first to show commitment via pm will be prioritised.

Mr Riley, not included in the deal.

  • Any news dakin?

I've replied to your pm Sasquatch ;0)

  • I think im goind to have to pull out sadly ):

  • for now at least. absolutely beautiful though

  • Nice. Id take it if I was local.

  • No worries dakin, I was awaiting your reply :0)

    Sasquatch, it's over to you.

Thanks DFP.....it's a very tactile thing!

  • So I found out that its missing the 'nut' on the bridge......I still think its priced fairly though.
Still available for now, but could do with some valentines cash.....so will pull it and eBay if necessary tomorrow. Thanks

  • Its the nut on the neck that's missing. Just to add, it doesn't look like its been played very much at all and is in great condition for a 40 yr old guitar. Still in two minds what to do so am going to fond out how much to repair.

  • Very cute, solid front back and sides?

  • I'm kinda tempted too. don't neeeed it but. TS from what I can glean on teh netz it's all laminate construction. Could be great with a pickup for live or taking on holiday though...

    Sure you won't post? *lazy

  • Real paucity of info on these but I did find this in a discussion

Between the solid wood Dynamics and the laminate FGs came the S-series Dynamics...Yamahas first attempt at all laminated guitars...so far thought to have come in two versions...the S-50 and S-70...I own one of each and they are OK but not nearly as nice sounding as the solid Dynamics...labels looked like this...
So good luck trying to figure it all out on Yamaha, theres a certain amout of the unknown that Yamaha owners just have to live with...to this point anyways...who knows maybe someday a former employee will write a book that puts an end to all the specuation, `til then some things are just that, speculation.

  • Pm's replied to :0)

I've found other references whilst researching .....can't find the links offhand, but have seen them sell from that ^ to up to £300..... In the states, they seem to more sought after.
My knowledge of guitars is zero, but it looks nice!

  • Thanks for the reply stedlocks.

Really close thing for me, but the cost of either couriering it or train fare plus the time to traipse there and back is just tipping it into the "pass" category.

It's a sweet little thing though and if it was local I'd snap it up. Best of luck with sale.

  • Shame......
I really dont want to run the gauntlet of the bay of evilness......does £80 in my pocket, whichever way you do it, swing it any?

  • Nnnnnng. let me check out some couriers for a quote.

  • No worries :0)

  • Last bump before the bay....£75 collected, a bit more to drop it off in the smoke :0)

  • Hi dude, sorry I'm going to pass too. Would have been all over it if it had a solid stop even but... I'm going to keep to plan A of not buying any more things I don't really need and keep saving for my Gibson. Good luck with the sale.

  • No worries bud, thanks for getting back ;0)

  • Lets try £50 then.... This needs a new 'nut' which apparently costs about £35 fitted... Cheaper if you have the knowledge.
I would like to see this played by someone, rather than sat forlornly in my dining room :0)

  • So...I was going to list this on eBay, but forgot about it, so here it is again.

£50, and I'll be able to drop it up to Tottenham hale station, if its easier, at some point in the near future!

  • Ill take it....

  • and when I get it fixed and it plays ok will be happy to pay the train fare too!
