I don't think it's correct to trivialise it, which is what tolerance amounts to. In the name of equality, behaviours like that are not socially acceptable. I'm sure your politics are sound, but some men - or patriarchal institutions - feed off of that sort of rhetoric/attitude, and throw it back in the faces of people who feel genuinely traumatised by that sort of infringement of privacy.
