Warning for Cyclists in Kent

  • This was on the Tower Hamlets Wheelers mail out this morning

As you guys organize a lot of rides in the beautiful Kent, I thought I'd
email this tweet I saw today. Don't want to alarm anybody, but it's better

    to be vigilant than sorry.

Further to my earlier tweet: Cyclists in the Kent/Bromley area, be careful!

  • Wow

  • Is this real?
Nobody says "license plate" in England.

  • No mention of this on Kent Police's website.
They happily put out appeals for stolen ladders and even bus drivers hit by snowballs - so I think it would warrant a mention.
    twitter = lies

  • Maurice Burton reported same incident on fb. :(

  • ropes with hooks? I've had a bin thrown at me but wtf.

  • I've heard it through lewisham cyclists...

  • Items hurled at me from cars in Kent over the last few years.
    Milkshake.
    Macdonalds bag full of rubbish.
Head of a mannequin ( bit random)
A doggy poo bag, with poo.
    Carton of coffee.
    Various drinks cans.
    Plenty of abuse.

Though I have had my bottom slapped by a rather pretty middle aged woman in an open top Mazda.

Seems Kent passengers like a bit of target practice

  • Nobody says "license plate" in England.

    Yes they do.

I hope someone manages to get their license plate and the perpetrator suffers one of those 'accidental deaths whilst in custody' that Australia does so well.

  • Though I have had my bottom slapped by a rather pretty middle aged woman in an open top Mazda.

That's sexual harassment/assault, so not really a 'though', but more of an 'and'.

  • I can live with that kind of sexual harassment/assault.

  • I don't think it's correct to trivialise it, which is what tolerance amounts to. In the name of equality, behaviours like that are not socially acceptable. I'm sure your politics are sound, but some men - or patriarchal institutions - feed off of that sort of rhetoric/attitude, and throw it back in the faces of people who feel genuinely traumatised by that sort of infringement of privacy.

  • I'm happy to disclose that at one point I voiced a similarly blasé sentiment having been groped myself whilst riding, but after lengthy discussion with a number of people, including some very intelligent and politically savvy women, I've adjusted my mindset; for the better.

  • Well I enjoyed it.
The slap that is not the various slings and arrows of outrageous vehicle occupants.

  • I've never been groped. I put it down to my beautiful rear end bestowing orgasmic delight upon those who observe it. Now too shaky to reach for it, they carry on without a care in the world for the remainder of their day.

  • Whereas I have a bit of lardarse which of course makes for an easy target.
