Cheers guys/girls/mix of both.
Off to Brussels, will decide from there where to go. Ghent/Brussels/Brugge.
I'm saying Ghent.

Alternatively, rent the movie In Bruges, get in a few cases of Delerium Tremens and stay at home. You won't know you haven't been there and you will save a few quid.
"In Bruges" is free on Virgin's PictureBox at the moment. Thanks Branson.

Delerium Tremens is brewed just outside Gent.
and is actually closer to Ghent than the brewery that does Gentse Tripel.. amongst other fine choices..

Norway/Denmark/Sweden
These places (or at least Norway and Sweden, not sure about Denmark) are a terrible idea for drinking, not available in very many places and horribly expensive. Lovely countries though.

I can recommend pretty much any German town. Cologne is ace and Hamburg, Berlin and Leipzig are also ace and cheaper.

Off this weekend on the trip. I picked Ghent, but flying to Brussels.
One issue; I've booked 6 seats and done the online check-in. Due to unforseen reasons (they aren't Mr T), two can't make the trip. Do I just rock up with the other three and not say anything or phone Ryanair and explain two can't make it and cancel? Will the later option have a charge?

Actually, I just read the T&C's: "Passengers are therefore not required to notify us if they are unable to travel on their booked flights"
Sorted.

Anyone been to Matera, Italy? Looking to do a long weekend away with my girlfriend. I'm wandering if it's the sort of place that is fun for an afternoon rather than a few days..

bit of a dredge here.
I'm thinking about going to belgium over new year. Everyone here seems to think Ghent is the best option. Any recommendations on what to do when I'm there?

If you do nothing else, make sure you go to this weird and wonderful little place called Het Velootje. It’s a bar/pub/café/whatever they call their drinking establishments over there, but really it’s just the weird owner’s garage filled with bicycle-related junk, where you sit at a table under candlelight and get strong beer handed to you without asking for it.
