Just tried again, and gave up after about 4 mins of waiting outside for a signal (same place which worked in about 30 seconds a week ago). It's not the model of the handset, the S2 works - I've been using it! It's just recently the GPS has packed up. Just thought it was a coincidence that friends phones had the same problem (galaxy ace and galaxy mini I think) but the ones with iPhones have always had a lock in a matter of seconds...
For the record, the quickest I've ever got a GPS lock on my s2 at any point, in any place was about 30 seconds
