^ French 531 was Metric OD (28.0 not 28.6) so plain had ID 26.2, and DB 26.6 (or 26.4).
Unlikely that this is a French frame though, what with it coming from Bolton.
Easy way to find out would be to stick vernier around the seattube... -

^^ Said much better than I

The frame itself actually doesn't look bad at all. The build (halflink, crankset, outers, tapejob, saddle, QR) is second rate after all that effort though.

52 18 it will have to be for now Neil Orrell let me down lol.. but its nearly there.. gear of the demigods...
QR front wheel is staying as i like it
everything else is on the to do listmay post a wanted add as Neil confirmed if its a 60's era 531 it should be a 26.8 seat tube
so need a 26.8 seatpost
and a 100-110mm 25.4 quill -

Using the armchair vernier, sucking air across my teeth etc, I'd say you probably want a 26.8mm post.
Armchair vernier ftw

you certainly know your stuff fellayour my new hero of the day lol
-
• #240

Nice! You've done a good job.
I must admit, it was much better than I thought it was going to be.
The saddle and cranks may not be particularly becoming, but the main thing is that it's on the road so you can deal with those sorts of things later.
I like the wheels. They add a classical touch, which is quite fitting.
Happy riding.

cheers fella seems you guys are impressed with the finished bike so im pleased with that
is there a lot of failures pop up on here??
new chainset now fitted and looking much better, but due to the bigger teeth count the half link wouldnt reach round so iv had to put a normal chain back on
il pop a pic up tomorrow

• #245
Where did you even find such an ugly crankset and in red?

I'm rather impressed with how the clearances turned out.
It looks nice and it seems dropping the back down a touch, improves the angles more than anything.
I would have left the braze ons though, but yeah, I'm sure Ken is smiling. -
• #249
cheers for that. was pleased it didnt clip the floor round corners
i was a little worried about that

Fair play, much better than anticipated. I still think it was a shame ruining a frame, but at least you got decals made :-)
My french 531 frame is 26.4, probably that
also, fuck those cranks are awful man come on
