I don't think the big block is boring. From All City's blurb it's built to be a track frame, but with sensible clearances and bottle mounts - which gives you more options. More options does not equal less fun.
But if you want a "fast" feeling bike go for the Mash. I haven't ridden one but I'd guess a stiff light modern alu frame is going to give you that feeling more than anything else.
I can see the appeal of buying a nice old lugged track frame with a 1" threaded set up and lots of character and history, I have one (albeit now with threadless carbon forks). But I think it's an outdated and impractical to actively choose an old fashioned set up on a new bike. So for that reason I just don't see what everyone else see's in the Brother stuff. It's nice that they're "doing there own thing", but TFG does the same for less.
Plus I think the Big Block looks cool in different guises:
