Bike parts you hate.

Agree to some extent. Love the egg beaters on my mtb, hate the candy-pedals on my SS-commuter. Wanted to be able to use the same cleats/shoes but I just don't really get on with the semi-platform design, feels like it interferes with the thread on the sole. Should have just bought a second pair of egg beaters :-(

Sounds like you need to use the crank bros cleat shim.

I have 2 pairs of candys, i pair of quattros, and I pair of mallets. The egg beaters look cool. But I get this feeling that the pedal opens when you press down hard. Not an issue with a platform. Plus the platform is freely rotating so doesnt effect the ease of clipping in.

The weakness is the spring tension. Eventually it will slacken, and the pedal is useless. So its a good idea to service and rebuild them. Pick up cheapish versions and replace axles etc.
