Is this a paid position?

Social media guru? Is that someone who can use twitter and facebook for more than a day without posting something inappropriate or mistaking the company account with their personal one... ?

Apologies, I should have mentioned that this is an unpaid position (just as my own is) until such time as there is any profit to share (which there should be).
I'll edit the original post to include this info.

Never trust a hippy.

Avoid anyone who says they are a social media guru.
They don't really exist, and if they do there are probably fewer than a dozen in the world, so you're unlikely to get one of them.
It's also worth bearing in mind that social media is just a medium: you want someone who is a good communicator and who knows how to use social media.

youll get 75 'likes' pressed and no action,
if thats what youre looking to achieve all good. -

I'm a social media guru, but I won't get out of bed for less than £7.50.

Social media is so last week
-
• #12
That's when stuff was still good.
-
• #13
Now if that £7.50 is a one-off fee then we can talk...
-
• #14
Yes, I'm looking for someone who's a good communicator and who knows how to use social media – we can forget the term "guru" if it helps.
-
• #15
so you're just looking for social media?
-
• #16
I'm not looking to achieve lots of "likes" and no action. I'd rather have no "likes" and lots of action. But at the moment it's no "likes" and no action. I'll settle for some "likes" and some action...

How about social media user? Or manager even? Really, the term isn't so important.
-
• #18
I once got called an internet forum stalwart. £7.50's going to be a daily fee if I'm taking on stalwart level responsibilities.
-

Stalwart is good. But any sort of daily fee isn't – unless we're talking pence in single figures. All I can offer is a share of future profits, with no guarantee that there will be any, and the chance to make a difference by getting kids cycling.

Is this not something you could do yourself?

What are you actually looking to acheive from this social media expert?
They will have to setup all of your social media pages, applications, run them, update and create original content for them, use them to manage stakeholders and keep up with relevant users/competition etc
You need to think what you want to get from just *having * social media. You need to use it properly. I've seen so many counts of companies small and massive - totally bollocksing up themselves and their rep in front of the most important people to them - their users simply because they have implemented social media platforms and fail to use them at all effectively.
What are you talking about 'action' ? Likes are good to make yourself look credible but what you should be seeking is engagement and creating a dialogue with your users/customers etc
I doubt you will get anyone to do this for you, but I'm sure there are people that could help you offer you advice - but really unless you are a reasonably sized company paying actually money then nobody who has significant experience will want to help you gratis.
If you want some advice on basic ideas of social media, I can offer you some advice but sorting out what you want to achieve from it as a road map, is the first point of call.

Tenderloin, thanks for your feedback.
I agree that I'm unlikely to find someone willing to do this for free, but I thought it was worth trying to make contact with someone who's also into promoting cycling and therefore who might see this as a good project to get involved with, for a reward other than a financial one – and when (if) any profit is made then they'll get their fair share of it.
The reason I want to utilise social media is because these days it's how a lot of people engage, interact, stay informed, etc. In this sense, I see it as potentially central to what is an educational / entertainment project. Creating and maintaining dialogue with users and getting them to support and participate in various activities is what I'm looking to achieve. Hence the earlier comment: getting "likes" is good, but encouraging action is even better. This can be translated into: it's good to talk about cycling, but it's so much better to do it.
While I could begin the social media set-up myself I also have a lot of other things to be doing with the project, hence the idea of getting other people involved, to share the load, kick ideas around with, etc, etc. I am able to supply much of the original content, though I doubt I could manage to post and tweet, etc, on a day-to-day basis.
Advice is always useful though so if you'd like to offer any please do.
I'm setting up a new project to promote cycling to kids and am looking to get a social media guru on board. Must be able to commit long-term. This is an unpaid position (as my own is) until such time as there is any profit to share (which there should be). PM me for more info, thanks.
If this isn't you, then maybe you know someone?
