  • this. also, she got the tattoo the first day they met after an extensive internet relationship.

How old is he, and how old is she? And he tattooed his name, on her face.

  • How old is he, and how old is she? And he tattooed his name, on her face.

yeah, i was kinda vague with that. i was just putting the point out there, not making anything of it. my personal opinion is that the girl is a bit silly.

  • I can almost see a tat in that position looking ok, it doesn't look that bad tbh. Name of some random dude you just met though? Fuck no...
Whatever floats her boat. I hope they fall in love, have many sprogs and grow old together. Otherwise she's gonna be pissed....

  • So this guy (...)

    3 words -

    DEFINITELY
    NOT
    COOL.

    or

    SHOULD
    NOT
    TATTOO

    I mean what the fuck?!
Well I guess he didn't force her into it (what was the stoy with the belgian girl with the stars again?),
but why, I mean really, why do you tattoo your name all over someone's face, someone who does not have a single tattoo yet.

  • He looks like a cunt and so does she, IMO.

  • One of the comments on FB about it:

"Shame cos she is very pretty. However also clearly naive and gullible. He will dump her one day and she will be cursed with his retarded name on her face forever. The anger and laughter should be directed at the boyfriend. She is young. He has filled her head with false securities and promises on his love for her. He is a power freak. He is tripping out he has that much power over her. The body language shows in their picture together. He has his hand over her crotch and breasts and kissing her neck looking directly at the camera. She is showing no emotion .he is displaying ownership where his hands are. She has her hand over his reassuring him she belongs to him."

Not saying I agree with everything in that statement, but this is generally what popped into my head when I saw the images of the two of them together.

Getting a facial tattoo (imho) is a very serious step and not something to be entered into lightly, especially in Western cultures. Even in traditional tattoo-heavy cultures like Maori, the facial moko was something you got after a long period of thought, respect, discussion, and so on. Getting ink on your face, the first thing that people see on you, your identifier, the definer of your 'outward' personality to many, is not something I think you should do after an internet romance and a week (or a day, or a year) together in real life. Especially for your first tattoo, when you are unfamiliar with the sense of permanence from marking your body.

I've covered up my first three tattoos now (on my arms). Did I regret them? Not hugely, but I wanted them covered over. At the time I thought they were fucking cool though and thought they were going to be cool forever. The woman I was with at the time - yes I was in love with her and our love was special and nobody else in the world understood us, fuck everyone else and what they think, and so on. Yeah well guess what? We broke up, like what happens all the time, but I didnt have her name plastered across my face as the VERY FIRST THING that people saw on me whenever I tried to meet other new people.

Anyway, I should get to work.

  • It's been said before but I really think tattoo artists need to feel a sense of responsibility. So many people getting work done on their hands and neck when they have little or no other ink. Used to be that you had to "earn" those with heavy coverage first.

Have to say the lettering looks really good. Placement and what it actually says... Not so much. Have to agee with the power play aspect of things here. I really hope they don't. But if they break up she is gonna have a really tough time psychologically dealing with that every day.

  • Finally got a copy of this yesterday. Looking forward to reading it, had a quick flick last night, very professional looking and lots of text to get through.

  • What other tattoo magazines do you like? My favourite is total tattoo. Uk based with a good mix of words and pictures.

  • **Brighton Tattoo Convention 15, 16 & 17 February 2013

**Now, I need to declare an interest in this. I'm building the main stage, sorting out the lights, PA and booking the bands, DJ's etc.

That aside, this event looks like its going to be brilliant. Its at the Hilton Metropole on the seafront and the organisers have booked all of the big exhibition halls at the back of the hotel. They have also booked 90% of the guest bedrooms keeping everything under one roof. We've sorted out the bar so that you'll be paying pub prices and not poncy hotel prices!!

Something like 300 artists and traders will be there. Some of the artists are still taking bookings, head over to the Convention facebook page for updates - https://www.facebook.com/BrightonTattooConvention?ref=stream

We've got a great line up of entertainment booked in, if you'd like me to list everyone who is playing let me know (the list on the website will be updated in the next couple of days). You can get evening party tickets on the door - £8.00 on Friday, £5.00 on Saturday and £8.00 on Sunday.

Sorry if this sounds like I'm pushing the event, I'm just really thrilled to be working on it and from what I have seen and heard it promises to be a really great weekend.

    More details here: http://www.brightontattoo.com/?section=home

Hope some of you can make it along

    Thanks

  • My tickets arrived this week ;-)

  • ^^ Damn it. I'm away that week weekend...

  • Wish I could come to this because, but it's bittersweet as I'm in Brighton for more work on my sleeves the weekend before. Work won't let me have two weekends off :(

Anyone who is going make sure to check out the Tattoo Workshop stand

I don't agree. This isn't the 70's. Everyone and their mother has tattoos and stuff now, so to most it doesn't hold the same 'significance' (haha) as it appeared to before. The more people get them, the more the stigma errodes, and so the more freedom we have. When people claim that it used to be different in the good old days and that you should 'earn' your tattoos it smacks of snobbishness to me.

  • I think it gives people more of a chance to learn how it is having visible ink. Sadly society is not as forward as it could be yet and much as we don't like it there is still plenty of discrimination out there.
Tattoo artists need to explain this a bit more to some people, especially kids in their late teens.

I got "wiganwill" tattooed on my arse in 2009 under the same circumstances

  • What other tattoo magazines do you like?

Skin Deep is my "Hello"; I'll buy it when I'm hungover or tired and just want something light to flick through. But generally I dont buy tatt mags on a regular basis any more. I used to buy Inked but the quality has gone down in the past year or so. Bound by Ink is OK sometimes.

Juxtapoz is probably the best in terms of experimental art & graphics. Not strictly a tattoo magazine, and sometimes hit and miss, but lots to get your brain working about ideas for your next design.

Oh, how could I forget, I have a VIP subscription to this:

Well, not really. But its actually not that bad sometimes. Only when hungover though and my brain doesnt need to work that hard.

  • Juxtapoz always has amazing stuff in it

  • ^ Link no work

Work in progress, only another 10/15 hours of work left to be done

  • Dope! Particularly like the upper parts of the trees

    Sang Bleu

A community building up a body of knowledgeand experience, with key people extracting lessons from that, is not snobbery. There are reasons to think twice about having your brand new boyfriend's name written on your face that have nothing to do with anti-tattoo prejudice.
