I'm soon going to be commuting from Southfields to Great Portland Street. Any suggestions on a cyclist friendly route?
Depends what you mean by cycle-friendly. Do you want quiet but stop-starty or open and fast but busy?
One possibility (in skeleton form) is:
York Rd (CS8)
Albert Bridge
Royal Hospital Rd
Pimlico Rd
Ebury St
South Eaton Pl
Lowndes St/Sq.
Into Hyde Park
Round the park and out onto Upper Brook St
Duke St
Wigmore St
(+ Wimpole St. and Weymouth St. of you're heading further North)
That's kind of a mix of the fast and balanced routes suggested by cyclestreets.net, although I disagree with their classification to some extent. CS8 is fast, but next to loads of traffic. From Albert Bridge on it's small quite road and the Park, quite pleasant really.
