at our outdoor track most people have it mounted on their stem/bars. they are only forbidden druing UCI sanctioned events or Provisional champs so people just put them in their pockets for that.
I dont see what the problem is. I only look at it after a sprint to check max speed. then check the data at home on the pc. its not really a distraction
there are virtually no accidents at our track either, 1 crash last year but no bad injuries, that was during a final lap sprint. then you have the young kids who have a little fall while getting used to clipless pedals, garmins arent a safety issue at all
