fuck you sram front derailleurs
If they'd got it right first time, they wouldn't be able to sell you the Yaw FD (and would Sir like the Exogram crank and 2012 shifters too, since they're necessary to make the whole system work?)

I feel your pain rogan. I worry how much paint I'm taking off my seat tube by scratching a band-on mech all over it to try and avoid chain rub...

Just popped shimmed 26.4mm 110mm stem on, reach measures up perfect.
Shims ok in this case or leverage of silly bars gonna prevent it staying put?
Would rather get another 25.4mm stem as it's not gonna be me riding it...
Also looks slightly more badass with longer stem. -

If you are using combo brake/gear levers its easy to have the lever out of line, zero everything first. leave it till tomorrow. have a tinnie.

The frame is now back from Mario Vaz, I picked it up on saturday. I am really pleased with the colour. I was not sure what to go for and took the decision with Mario when I left the frame with him. I went to see the frame sand blasted before giving the final go ahead for enamelling, and it turned up that the lug work was a bit messy, and the rust had made a bit of cosmetic damage here and there. Structurally it felt sound, no cracks, etc... Impossible to garantee 100% anyway, but I will ride in confidence.
So Mario had to do a bit of tidying around the lugs and a bit of filling, and I think the final result is very good considering the original state of the frame. He suggested the "french touch" of the "blue/white/red" flag on the seat tube panel. That looks pretty cool I think, also I really like the fact that the white of the Witcomb downtube transfers and the the panels is slightly off-white. OK enough talking, thanks to Mario on this one!
Always wanted a Witcomb (living in New Cross and all), and always had a weakness for Nervex... Really looking forward to seeing this one done!

lasercutting, how does one go about it? I have a set of cranks I'd like to polish, and would want to restore the logo on it

I have never tried to engrave onto metal, I assume its alloy, which is quite soft so I dont think it would be a problem. If you wanted to laser engrave a logo onto it you could probably do it. I believe there are companies that offer a laser service and that is the best way to go about it. Basically the cutter I used is like a giant printer with an automatic head that goes back and forth cutting the pattern.
I would say you should try to find a company in your area that runs such a service and ask them if they will do it. They will need a CAD drawing of whatever logo or text/picture you want
hope it goes well! I would be interested to see the result if you pulled it off

thanks for the info Jake, much appreciated. I'll ask around to find a laser engraver in the low lands. I'm planning to do the exact same C-Record chainset Tel did. May be a while but if I get the result I'm after I'll surely post it here

My experience with laser cutting to it that it is very difficult to align the item within the bed to accurately position the cut. When cutting perspex / card / wood there is a certain amount of wastage around any sheet used. I have etched glass using a laser cutter but it requires you to use an image file rather than a vector (CAD drawing) and makes a series of passes over the image like an inkjet printer. Would be a shame to get it slightly wrong.
I would think an acid etch process would be easier where you mask protect all the aluminium other than the logo. This will make it easier to position a logo on something like cranks.
