Thread size Campagnolo Record Pista Hub

  • Hi

I need to convert a friends fixed gear to ss. He had an operation on both knee's...

Trouble is I don't know what size the thread on a campagnolo record pista hub is. I ordered a Freewheel of unknown threadsize and it didn't fit.

    Is it BSA or Italian.

    Cheers

    Chris

  • I think you might have ordered a BMX freewheel. The thread for the sprocket on a track hub (as opposed to the lockring thread) is the same irrespective of make and is the same as the thread for a freewheel. I think there are small differences between ISO and Italian but they are minimal and shouldn't make a difference. BMX freewheels on the other hand are smaller.

  • Chris,

if you ordered a freewheel with less than 16teeth, it is probably a BMX Freewheel that has the smaller diameter thread - Try a freewheel of 16teeth or larger and it should fit fine.

  • No I ordered a large tread (BSA) maeda freewhel with 19T. I googled and it said that Campy has Italian Threads and not BSA. The BSA felt slightly too large. Maybe it is the same as with the headsets, the thread might be slightly different but it will be ok...

  • According to Sheldon, there are tiny differences between Italian, British and ISO freewheel threads ( http://sheldonbrown.com/gloss_e-f.html#freewheel ).

In the old days, a freewheel was a freewheel and it didn't matter who made it, they all fitted. I had hubs by Campag, Shimano and Suntour and they all took whatever freewheel I had. I can't imagine things have changed.
