hippy I think you have the wrong hose.

I wrote them a slightly grumpy email a while back, and they sent me an excellent hose/attachy thingy. It works a bloody treat. Is yours the metal end? Mine came with that, for presta you have to add into it this second metal attachment that - basically - doesn't work.

Or maybe you just have other beef.

I had some multi-valve piece of shit and swapped it for one from Varno's lot to use with my disc covers. Both are annoying but Varno's works. The pressure gauge is tiny, the thing falls over easily. Silca and the cheapass P-X were better.
