XC mostly, but something to take on the odd trip to heavier stuff Wales. No carbon. Probably hard tail.

If I was after a new geared 29er hardtail, I'd be tempted to build up a Cotic Solaris.

Shit tyre/mud clearance on the Solaris

Hmm, that's quite a surprise considering it's UK designed :-/
Not seen one up close, so I can't comment. Certainly seems a bit of an oversight though.

Grand Canyon AL 29ers offer an awful lot of bike for the money. Love mine (same a s pic but last year's) although as it is the cheapest type, the wheels are quite heavy. The rest is very good, it even comes with the good tyres, and the Fox fork which you don't often find on bikes in this price range

Hmm. I was out riding today and now I'm itching for a 29er. Looking at options. Still riding a Kona Fire Mountain, albeit with RockShox Reba RL Dual Air upgrade. Needs new wheels as the no-name ones are past it. Was just thinking that if I'm going to go big-wheel, I'd better do it sooner rather than later.
Difficult to compete with Canyon. Especially when alu might be your preferred material.
Nice steel hardtail option...

Nice carbon hardtail option.

Salsa's nice! How can you go wrong with Kung Fu Cromoly ;-)
Mate of mine has the El Mariachi frame but kitted it out with a sweet rigid Niner carbon fork, Hope/ZTR wheels and XX1. Superb machine

Ok, it's a full suss and it's a
FordSpecialized, but it's also a well specced bargain at the moment.http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/specialized-epic-comp-29-mountain-bike-id65452.html

That Cannondale has a 90mm PBR lefty. Basically what I have ( I have a NOS shell on mine though). Bloody lovely fork.
Other than the slightly industrial rims. Its an amazing looking bike.

Build up a Pipedream Skookum?
-
• #3615
The Salsa is lovely - they're not too heavy, are they?
Planet X is nice, but I don't think I can treat carbon with as much care as it demands.
Cannondale's not normally my sort of thing, but that fork is excellent. And if SmallFurry recommends it... Good price too.
Specialised makes a lot of sense, but it is so, so boring.
I'm going to make some enquiries about the C2W scheme at the office, see what can be done. Realistically I'll be able to sell my fork, but have to virtually scrap the rest of the Kona, right?

Yeah, I know :-(

Depends what's on it I would have thought?

to say specialized are boring based on the name alone labels you much more than it does the bike

Labels me as someone who wants to like and enjoy the things I buy?

It's this spec, but with decent tires, a Thomson seat post and the Rebas with lockout.

Who's to say you won't like it based on nothing more profound than its name?
-
• #3623
^^ Sell the fork, then get some cheapo rigids and make the Kona into a beater bike :-)
-
• #3624
The seatpost might fit the new bike, depending on what you get.

There's probably better deals out there. What sort of thing are you after?
