Don't go for any rockshox fork without motion control damping. MoCo isn't perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than Rockshox' basic damper
Why not go second hand? I got my Pikes with the PUSH damper upgrade for £180

will have a scan - but aint getting second hand forks hit and miss as you just dont know how much grief they have taken?

I wouldn't say it's too much of a risk. Singletrackworld classifieds are pretty good.

just joined on to that forum this week, will have a look through.

Second hand is fine. I got 2012 Fox Float 150s for £300 on ebay, barely used, taken of an OEM bike as the dude was replacing with Talas 36s. Some people have money to burn. Bargain for me (800quids worth)

People still up for Friday?
Unfortunately I am wrecked after too much riding in the snow so I'm crying off - sorry.

anyone interested in doing this?

Yes.

I hope it dries out before then. It's so wet down this way, it's mostly unrideable.
I would be up for it, but, I like gears, and am considering this:

I'm up for SSUK. Apparently last year's didn't happen? I went to the previous one though. Great fun even though the course was soggy and boggy and more like a mud slalom than an actual trail! The Cairngorms thing just looks insane!

Riding in deep snow is more challenging than I expected... Token snow shot (:

I've just picked this up on Ebay - and wondered about upgrading the front forks - currently Rock Shox Judy. Can anyone suggest a good option ?
Thanks in advance

Is there anything in particular you don't like about the Judy fork?
Action, weight, adjustability? Also, what kind of budget?
-
• #4042
or just get a push upgrade?
-
• #4043
^ Probably not worth the cost on a lower end fork.

What do forumengers think of the Charge Cooker SS.
I want a simple mtb that's fun in local terrain (the edge of the Cotswolds so steep and stoney trails) but minimal maintenance and running costs.
I know I like rigid 29", I'd prefer gears for riding in Wales but don't love cleaning/breaking/fixing them, I think I could live without them. I'd rather have reliable parts than light ones.

Why have a eccentric bb rather than horizontal drop outs?
SS MTBs don't appeal to me personally, think it would be too much of a limiting factor... I find gears are very useful off road.
-
• #4048
I think the idea behind the bb is for easy/fast refitting of the wheel. Nice when you puncture and nice if you sling it in a car with the wheels off too I guess. Also avoids issues of disc/caliper allignment.

Sliding dropouts have all the same advantages. It comes down to which you believe will be more reliable. Eccentric BB looks neater, but you hear a lot of advice about how to dial out the creaking :-)

Yep. I think this model with eccentric bb and rigid specific geometry is new for this year. I can't find much online from owners.
I also know my LBS will think I'm a bearded fixie rider for being interested in one of these (they'd be right of course). I bet they use the word 'niche' when I ask for a test ride.
Bear in mind that you might need to factor in a new hub for a thru axle fork. They do make more sense, especially for longer travel forks
