The best and rather simple solution IMO would be implementing an option like
[NSFW]http://xyz.tumblr.com/nsfw-picture.jpg[/NSFW], the forum will just show the clickable link,
and, if an NSFW option in user's preferences is checked, forum will automatically show the linked image.
