  • Aim low, be disappointed less.

    A pessimist is never disappointed

  • Quite a few of the secret footballers tales tie up with his time at (and departure from) Cambridge United too. He mentions about his previous club selling their sell-on clause back to the team, which United did thus missing out on a decent windfall when he went to Stoke from Reading.

  • But TSF talks about possession football as a big part of his game, a big money move to a top club and playing for the national team (I think)

  • The news my ears have been waiting for....

Colin Murray to leave Match of the Day 2
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-21141701

  • Saw that earlier. Not a huge Colin Murray fan - he's great on Fighting Talk, but not in some of the other capacities on the Beeb.

All they have to do now is get rid of Robbie Savage. And Hansen. And Lawrenson. And Shearer. And Linekar.

  • Pat Nevin is always great when he's on

  • moar nevin!

  • James Richardson FTW

  • The Irish commentator on fox sports:
"pick that out the onion trolley!"

  • Agreed. Nevin is good, in studio. His punditry during commentary is less interesting.

  • La Newcastle. 5 french players signing in one transfer window!

If I were a Liverpool fan, I'd be excited at the prospect of getting Coutinho (technically he is excellent.) - but Liverpool seem to be getting a lot of very similar players. Ince seems more of an out and out winger and considering he's the same age as Zaha, has significantly better stats and not vastly differing in quality from what I've seen looks to be good value at the 5-6m price point.

  • If I were a Liverpool fan, I'd .....

    ftfy

  • get in bradford

  • Just missed Tunisia vs Algeria.
    Great goal by Tunisia #7.

  • Take that Villa. Awesome.

  • Well in Bradford should be a cracking final against Swansea

  • Bradford's first major final for 102 yrs

    Fair play

    Villa >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Got, got, got, need.

Similar swipe at the BBC from the Guardian.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/blog/2013/jan/22/colin-murray-motd2-bbc

And yet the BBC, which not only has some vague sense of responsibility to inform and educate, but is effectively free from the commercial pressure that drives the wider televisual obsession with dunder-headed celebrity for celebrity's sake, is content to let its enduring cartel of platitudinous Easter Island Heads - purveyors of a brand of punditry that isn't simply dead air but somehow strangely life-sapping, horribly entropic - have a back-channel say in who gets to present our only free to air top level football show.

[..]. Clearly the axe is falling on the wrong side of the coffee table here. It is the leaden heavyweights of the punditry sofa who should be in the process of being swept aside in a long-awaited punditry annihilation, a mass-junking of all that old, gruelling heavy-furniture, weathered by cliché, slumped in an attitude of belligerent complacency, silencing rather than starting debate, hugely over-remunerated for a service that offers, essentially, no service.

Cartel of Platitudinous Easter Island Heads indeed.

  • i like colin murray
    fighting talk excellent
friday night show with nevin and perry groves really good listen and perry and pat give a nice balance of ex players who know the game and have a decent amount of inside knowledge

perry groves didn't take his arsenal career very seriously
the antic he and his fellow players got up to ... legendary

  • Shame, not many liverpool fans in the media, now there's one less.

I agree - I think he is much better on radio than on TV. Fighting talk and the Friday night show are really good, and Nevin and Groves are very good together. Murray seems less suited to the other work he's given on the BBC though.

  • I can't get excited about pundits. I prefer my football, like my women, live and in the flesh.

But each to their own. JoeSlain likes his in the pub with his mates and Corney doesn't really care so long as Gary Linekar and a Guardian Journalist are involved..
