  • Unless it's thin supple leather i wouldn't bother unless you have a sturdy machine, ie 70s Husqvarna. I'd imagine you'd need a stronger needle, a jeans one should probably work

  • oh, if you've done a bag on it it should be allright

  • Yeah it will be thin, 'rollable' leather.
My bad boy Crown got through liner, cordura and webbing, albeit with a lot of swearing.

    Just bought some leather needles.

  • misses sewing machine

  • just bought this btw, looking to get starting doing leather work

  • yes use a specific leather needle, not too difficult on a basic machine if leather is not too thick

  • I made my first cycling cap last night:

I used an existing hat as a template as I don't have a pattern, and overall I'm quite happy with the results. The trim on the bill isn't quite lined up with the trim on the main part of the hat, but it's not too noticable. I followed the tip about using plastic packaging in the bill of the hat, earlier in this thread, and it's worked brilliantly as a stiffener!

  • ~~I have a box of material suited mostly to bike type stuff for sale. For £10 there is a large box including 50mm and 25mm webbing, velcro of the same size, a bit of tarp liner and cordura, hardware include buckles, some tweed for lovely cycling caps, neoprene, innertubes for edging and lots more. There is also a complete cycling jacket with pattern ready to be sewn which I never got round to. This cost a fair amount.
    Collect SE22, no splitting.

I also am selling a crown point sewing machine for £40 but I need this gone asap so am advertising elsewhere.
    ahem.~~

  • Foo you Photobucket.

Image re uploaded if it makes a difference.

  • Selling my Crown Point sewing machine with new pedal and I'll include that box of material and hardware for £40.
    SOLD

  • Hello sewing people. I didn't know this was here, but somebody suggested I let you know that I'm selling a vintage Singer: http://www.lfgss.com/thread92025.html

  • Home made iPad case, leather, felt, and an afternoon

  • iGLOV

  • That's the Beach Boys on screen, absolutely massacring Heroes & Villains

  • can anyone recommend a cheap industrial or semi-industrial sewing machine model, maybe an old one, that can handle trucktarp, webbing and cordura? im looking to sew some bags but i don't have cash to spend on a new one, most of them start at about 1000€...

  • Oddly enough I read up a bit on sewing machines last night here: http://www.industrialsewing.co.uk/

    Might be helpful

  • Now this is a thread that I can get into (no pun intended)

My brother is getting hitched this summer and I'm currently pumping out bunting and assorted paraphenalia quicker than a Chinese sweatshop.

I'll get some photo's up soon.

Loving the cycle cap pattern, I need that in my life.

  • First hat attempt!

    yes! Now this I like.

    What's her name?

  • Ok sewing peeps - is this saveable? Its the lower attachment point for the main strap on an otherwise good condition Vagx messenger bag. I took a bit of a tumble and unfortunately this part of the strap was abraded, and if it stays in use it will pretty quickly tear right through.

I'd love to save it, it didn't cost me a huge amount but its hard to come by decent quality right-shoulder messenger bags and I don't really have the time/money to get a new one. Would anyone here be able to fix this, or recommend someone who can? Willing to pay obviously, so long as the cost is reasonable.

  • Maybe check with black rainbow project?

  • Looks saveable for sure. Not an expert myself, but have seen my lady fix more messy looking things than that before. Hope you find some assistance.

  • Hello sewing people.

I have a zip on my Swrve Milwaukee hoody that I need to replace.

Chris at Swrve has been good enough to send me the correct zip, but I need to find somewhere / someone that can do the sewing.

Can someone make me a recommendation?
