It's fine. However strong your legs are you will not put down as much stress as the braking force a 50mph 40lb DH bike will. If you don't buy cheap [read crap] cogs and a get a good hub; you'll be fine.

Also; was this not good enough. http://www.lfgss.com/thread45310.html
EDIT: I meant this thread but I guess that one too.

Have been using them for a long time, they're just fine. I've got a Tomicog, and one thing that I noticed was that the holes in the cog wereslightly bigger than the bolts, so you'll need to take care to center the cog before tightening the bolts all the way. Besides that I have no regrets at all.

Sorry Tenners, I obviously didn't search that thoroughly. I was using the wheel I built with the Surly hub (http://www.lfgss.com/thread45310.html) as a front wheel but I'm thinking of buying a six hole cog for it and putting it in the rear now.
Thanks again.

No need to apologise, Mick. If you read through the thread I linked to you'll find plentiful advice etc.

yep ive been using one for about a year, velosolo cog, no problems. your legs put no more force through it that the brakes on a DH bike would :-)

pain in the arse to change i would have thought

Why? Torx bolts, to me, seem easier than faffing with chainwhips and lockrings... You can't really crossthread or strip it easily too.

I've been using Velosolo's bolt-on cogs for over three years now. Originally on my fixed gear polo bike (remember when polo was fixed?), then on a series of beaters and finally on two FGFS bikes. I've never had a problem of any kind with this setup. I am aware, though, that some front disc hubs make for an easier conversion than others....

Shimano M756 are what I'm planning on using. Guaranteed to work by VS and they have been on my MTB for a few months so I know they're rugged.

Bolt on cogs are fine like every one says. Or just go with a Miche cog + carrier.

I keep hearing about bieber but never get round to finding out who he is, be cool.
Hi there,
I'm thinking on using a Disc Mounting Fixed Cog for my next back wheel instead of a screw on type. I keep snapping spokes and the sproket/cog is always ceased on so I end up buying a new wheel.
I'm afraid I might snap one, more than one or all the bolts or some other unforeseen problem.
Is anyone using this type of cog system, if you are, what's the verdict?
Thanks in advance, Mick S.
(I have seached within the forum for this subhject btw).
