Yep. I briefly worked as a painter's assistant and he said the same thing. You can blow the paint out of a bicycle pump and get a professional finish so long as you prep correctly and do a hell of a lot of wetsanding. I have even painted a bike with a roller and it was better than a lot of factory jobs.
Rattle cans will never be as durable as 2-pack acrylic, powdercoat or stove-enamel, though.
