  • Xmas present project. Feels wrong to drill into a new helmet.

  • Looking good lucas. When's the Hija coming?

  • How was the bike lounge?

  • Turned out really good. 3 different women came and spoke to us about playing and a couple other people were generally interested.

  • [QUOTE=Hyper Allah;3352940]3 different women came and spoke to me...[QUOTE]

    Ftfy: Gunja's prophecy coming true!

Good work though and I hope it pays off.

  • Okay, so who is interested in this Eggheads business? We need 5 people and 1 reserve player. If we get more interest than that then we'll have to have some kind of quiz-off to determine who is best placed to go.

There's also a non-too-subtle request for 'diversity' in the application, so maybe a weighting toward vagina-owners, brown people or Americans (you know who I'm talking about) should be considered, as polo in general is 99% white sausagemeat.

We've got an application form which the captain has to fill out, so we need someone to step up asap. If I'm being favourable, I'd describe myself as lower-mid-table in terms of Birmingham Polo braininess (I make it up in positivity and generosity though), so I'm happy to sit this one out if the people with multiple degrees in subjects only slightly less irrelevant than mine want a bash at winning a few grand.

Conditions: (read the email in the BHBPA account, or ask me and I'll forward it to you)
Available between 25th Feb-9th March and 8th-13th April for shooting if we're succesful,
    Over 18,

They haven't given a deadline, but I'd say a few days at most before we send it back.

Read the subjects on the Wikipedia page and put your best/worst subject against your name

    1. danwentskiing (Best: food and drink*, Worst: History)

*don't know that much about either, but I eat and drink a lot.

Let's keep discussions in person/email/private. I'm just putting it here for the sake of transparency and to get everyone to see it.

  • Is this some sort of quiz TV show - surley some sort of more active game show would be more fitting? I can't make the 25th Fed to 3rd March though so probably out.

If tv are you doing it in full polo kit to drum up some recruitment? Maybe you could drag out the old Black Stabath t-shirt dan?

  • We need to get to a pub quiz pronto to test out our knowledge...

Yeah. They asked us if we would be interested in applying, but it looks like they've asked every other polo scene they can find too, so I'm not that hopeful/bothered.

We definitely need some bike foundry anarcho-communitarians on that list though.

  • I nominate Gunj for team captain - she's got eggheads knowledge we can only dream of.

  • We need a few more names on the list and someone to do the paperwork - I can't be arsed tbh.

  • I think we should aim for a pub quiz post polo on sunday to bone up.

  • I think we should aim for a pub quiz post **polo on sunday **to bone up.

You are now safely into the delusional end of the optimism spectrum.

  • snowlo?

  • Magic are doing a 1mm shaft. I'm going to order 10 (unless anyone wants 0.8mm)

Also, how do people feel about doing a beginners session at the end of Feb or beginning of March?

  • Yes please! - we can get pro delivery from matt or mya.

    and yes for beginners.

I get paid next week so can finally pay for my head as well.....

  • I'll take a couple of shafts. If we're using BHBPA money can you create a doc in the gmail account so we can see who owes what?

I'll help out with beginners, obvs, but does having a specific session imply that all our other sessions are not for beginners? Our last attempt was pretty unsuccesful if I recall - how do we improve?

  • Cool, i'll put the order in.

I think we've got to keep trying to engage people. Having a specific 'beginners' day should make it more accessible.
I was thinking of posting it on Birmingham cyclist, announcing on the uni bike project email list and getting friends to come down. Let's try the sunday or wednesday after march critical mass then.

  • Could you guys afford to build up a couple of the mallets and give them away to 1 or 2 beginners on the day? perhaps the top goal scorers, or the ones who fall off least? this might make them feel more involved and part of the gang and want to come back?

It might be better to do a different beginners session than a Sunday or Wednesday if you want to make it regular too - something that also might help keep the beginners.

I'm rambling, but perhaps make Sunday 10am-12pm normal throw-ins then 12-2 beginners. anybody can play at anytime but with faster games in the morning and slower ones in the afternoon? If numbers tart to pick up from there, you could start doing training stuff if people wanted to?

  • Set up a Birmingham bike polo beginners thread on here. make Facebook events for every Sunday? Or start a list on the Facebook page as well as on here to make it more transparent to newbies?

I can do the Facebook stuff if you like?
