Surely if you're looking at spending £50 on a headset then a good used CK ain't too far away?

I use http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/HSFSOXL2/fsa_orbit_xl_2_headset and think it is fine.

Orbit X all day long. Quality headset.
I can never understand why anyone would want anything other than Hope. They are brilliantly made, and the headdoctor is one of my all time favourate small parts. Simple, and functional.

Absolutely nothing round about it though.
I've had good experiances with Aerozine stuff. ever tried the headset though.
The best budget option would be this Orbit MX.

Also not that round though.
If you really care about the profile (and why not). Then the Orbit X seems the easy chioce to me.

+1 for hope.

yeah those hope ones do look good. ive had a few problems with pitted and brinelled headsetsin the past. a DH headset would probably take more punishment than your typical road bike headset. cheers for the input.

Wont happen with Hope. They have cartridge bearings, and anything that may wear can be bought separately. I have several. Its an automatic chioce for me. Hope stuff just works, and keeps on working, all while looking sexy.
Doesnt seem to suit your asthetic though. Which is fair enough.

A Cane Creek 110 is a round option but I'm not sure if it would be appreciably cheaper than a Chris King. Still, it's something to look out for.

Feck. I knew I'd missed one. Been bugging all morning.
Probably better than a CK. Without the hipster tax.

id love a chris king. but. these look good, and wont bankrupt me. any help choosing would be hugely appreciated before my head explodes.
what id love is something similair in shape, good solid quality, mid priced but without the logos and brand names.
in black. otherwise id just get a campy 1 1/8.
just got one of these..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tange-Seiki-TECHNO-GLIDE-RDC-82-headset-1-1-8-Threadless-NEW-Black-/230910996323?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35c35e2f63
after fiddling with it for a while, well it *feels *a bit cheap .
cheers !!!!!
